2007 One-Page Short Story Prize >>> LONG_LIST<<<

Summary - The Rules - Entry Fees - On-Line Entries - Postal Entries - Judge

This is your annual opportunity to turn your hands to what is one of the most difficult, and rewarding tasks that a writer might elect to face; to create, in a tiny fragment, a completely resolved and compelling story. Flash Fiction is a wonderfully entertaining thing to read and a frustratingly challenging thing to write, but we love it and so do the readers of our Anthology, and so this is another chance to get one of your stories, however small, into this year's Fish Anthology.

Competition Summary

Opens: 1 January 2007
Closing date: 31 March 2007
Results: 30 April 2007
Judge - Robert Shapard

Judge Biography

Robert Shapard
Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Robert Shapard is co-editor with James Thomas of FLASH FICTION FORWARD: 80 VERY SHORT STORIES (2006) and NEW SUDDEN FICTION: SHORT-SHORT STORIES FROM AMERICA AND BEYOND (2007),  both published by W.W. Norton & Co. (wwnorton.com). Shapard and Thomas have been publishing anthologies of very short fiction for 20 years, and are university teachers of creative writing. A chapbook of Shapard's own short-short stories, "Motel and Other Stories" can be found at Amazon.com.

"I'm interested in fiction writing, have had stories published widely, am a regular teacher on the creative writing faculty, and have been a recent director of the CW program at Manoa. I'm editor of a number of anthologies of fiction, including the Sudden Fiction series and a collection of outstanding immigrant writings called Stories in the Stepmother Tongue; and I've edited various literary journals, including Manoa, which I co-founded with Frank Stewart. Although I've taught mostly workshops, I've also devised and enjoyed teaching reading courses for writers."
