Feathers and Cigarettes & Other Stories

Cover of Feathers and CigarettesWhen Aldous Huxley was asked what the prerequisites for an author actually were, his answer was firm and direct.

All one needs to write is paperand sharp pen, replied Huxley.

A sharp pen? queried the young journalist.

It needs to be sharp to open the vein, said the author drily. It may be an apocryphal story, but it beautifully illustrates the respect that both of us, as editors, have for the efforts expended by all contributors to the 2003 Fish Short Story Anthology. The simple act of sending your work out into the world takes courage.
